REVIEW: Hellcats

The first information I read about Hellcats was, as with Nikita, just a few days before it premiered. The show was described as Glee meets Bring It On, so two of my favorite things. I was also told that it appears to be a show all about girls showing their midsections, making it three of my favorite things. I can forgive you for not seeing how a someone (especially a young, heterosexual male) can like both Glee and half-naked girls. I don’t think I’m Hellcats‘ target demographic (or maybe I am, as I’ll describe later), but that won’t stop me from watching.

REVIEW: Nikita

Most of the television shows that I watched last season (i.e everything except Heroes) is returning this season, so I didn’t have a need to fill empty gaps in my weekly TV schedule. With that being said, I didn’t really research any new shows. It wasn’t until just a few days before Nikita premiered that I even heard about it. I had never seen the original Nikita film, or the La Femme Nikita television series, and everything that I’ve seen the main cast (Maggie Q, Shane West, Lyndsy Fonesca) in, I didn’t feel compelled to go out and watch more of their work, so I can’t really tell you why I started watching the show. I can tell you, however, why I will keep watching.

You’re Doing It Wrong!: Devil May Cry Reboot

This week at the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom showed a trailer for the new Ninja Theory-developed Devil May Cry game. This game is to serve as a reboot to the series which debuted on the Playstation 2 back in 2001. Over the year we’ve seen mixed reactions to the series, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming one of the most recognized franchises of the past decade. While a reboot of the franchise is not necessarily a bad thing (and is actually quite common at this stage in a franchise’s life, which we’ll explore further), it seems like Capcom doesn’t have any idea what they’re doing.

REVIEW: Glee – The Complete First Season

Glee has become somewhat of a phenomenon since it debuted on FOX last May. In the course of a single season, Glee has seen several awards, including a Golden Globe for “Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy,” the cast has gone on tour, sang the national anthem at the World Series, performed at the White House, been picked up for two more seasons, and released four studio albums, which broke a record previously set the The Beatles in 1966 for shortest time between first week number one releases. Maybe “phenomenon” is an understatement?

You’re Doing It Wrong!: Spider-Man Reboot Casting

This is a post I’ve been meaning to do for a while, but I’m glad I’ve waited (or lazily done so) until now. Ever since Sony Pictures announced in January that the trio of Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst had stepped away from the movie franchise the internet has been abuzz with discussion and speculation as to who should take up the superhero’s mantle. For the most part, everything that I have seen has been completely and utterly the wrong direction Sony should go with. Continue reading →

REVIEW: Daybreakers

It would be an understatement to say that Hollywood has released a plethora of vampire movies in recent years, undoubtedly thanks to the success of the Twilight series of books and films.  I have yet to experience Twilight first-hand, but the things I have heard are less than appealing. Daybreakers in the the position to right the wrongs that have been perpetrated on the vampire name. And for the most part, it does the job. Continue reading →

REVIEW: Up in the Air

Originally wishing to see The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus this weekend, I was upset to find out that it has not currently opened here in Pittsburgh. Going over the list of movies my local cineplex was showing, I came across an article about Up in the Air. The article said that it was one of the best films of 2009, and with it coming out during the tail end of said year I was inclined to listen. I took a look at the trailer, and I liked what I saw.
